One of the world's most prestigious travel guide publishers, Lonely Planet, has released a booklet featuring the 10 best value destinations for 2024.

The authors offer their audience 10 destinations worth visiting in the new year without breaking the bank.

Among the options are the US Midwest, Poland, Nicaragua, the Normandy region of France, Egypt, the Greek island of Ikaria, Algeria, New Zealand and… Bulgaria.

They call it the Danubian Limes, signifying the border of the Roman Empire along the Danube River and the adjacent fortification system that formed the empire's outer defensive ring. Today, it encompasses the countries of Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, and Romania. Today, the area, which is a candidate for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is dotted with countless cities, but the Bulgarian ones are more than impressive, especially cities like Vidin and Silistra.

The Australian publication also recommends that tourists enjoy an overnight train ride across the Old Continent, which ranks 10th as a "destination.".
