Sunny Beach expects a 20% increase in tourist numbers

Salaries in the tourism sector will be increased by approximately 20% at all levels this year. This was reported at Sunny Beach Acting Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev is on a working visit to the resort, where he met with tourism industry representatives to discuss challenges ahead of the summer season.

«"This is a good sign for the Bulgarian labor market, because tourism is competing for workers. The best workers, the most sought-after workers in the tourism industry, are Bulgarians. Workers from third countries are sought because there is a labor shortage. But I repeat: the good news is that next year, wages in the industry will increase by approximately 20%. This is important because seasonal work is something that deserves sufficient attention," Miloshev commented.

The acting Minister of Tourism also commented on the issue of visas for workers from third countries, as well as other problems in the industry.

«"This meeting will in no way resolve the visa issue. Or rather, I can tell you what questions were raised at the meeting in Sunny Beach. I can group them in the following order. First, there's a huge desire and need in the industry for the capacity of our consulates, especially in Central Asia, where workers from third countries are being recruited for the tourism sector, in order to increase their capacity. We've had discussions along these lines, and I believe it's achievable.".

The second important development is the Law on Amendments and Supplements for Foreigners in Bulgaria. Debates on this topic are currently underway in the National Assembly. I expect good news, and if this law is passed, it will be the best signal for the industry from the People's Representatives.

The third problem is the Resolution on Water Rescue Measures adopted by the Council of Ministers. This regulation imposes numerous requirements for which the industry is not yet prepared. Their request is to postpone this action if possible," Miloshev stated.

Earlier today in Burgas, when asked where he spends his summer vacation, the acting Minister of Tourism stated, "Bulgaria! Our Black Sea coast is an infinitely wonderful place, a favorite one, and don't expect any other answer from me!"«
