We visited Sozopol for the first time this year and, to be honest, we liked the town; it has its own charm. 
Sozopol. General information
Sozopol is somewhat similar to Nessebar, with ancient fortress walls, cobblestone streets, and a large marina for yachts and small boats. The city has a rich history that stretches back thousands of years. I'll just note one interesting fact. In the 5th century BC, the city erected a colossal statue of Apollo, 13 meters tall. But in 72 BC, the Roman general and proconsul Lucullus captured the city and placed the statue on the Capitoline Hill in Rome. The statue was subsequently removed after the adoption of Christianity in the Roman Empire.

Sozopol is located on the Black Sea coast, 35 km south Burgas.

The city itself is divided into two parts: the Old and New Town, between which is the Sea Garden.

The Old Town is located on the Skamni Peninsula. Near Sozopol are the islands of Sveti Kirik, which is connected to the mainland by a breakwater, Sveti Ivan, and Sveti Petar.

Climate of Sozopol

The climate of Sozopol and the surrounding region falls somewhere between humid subtropical and Mediterranean, with relatively warm but windy winters and long, warm summers. July has the highest number of sunny hours, with 324 hours. The warmest month is July. The average sea temperature in May is 15.4°C, rising to 20.8°C in June, and the warmest sea temperature in August is 25.6°C.  

Transportation

You can get to Sozopol by plane. Burgas Airport is 44 km away.

By bus: Buses from Burgas to Sozopol depart every half hour. Tickets cost 5 BGN. Buy the cheapest bus tickets. You can do it here.

What about housing and hotels? Sozopol offers accommodations with a wide range of prices. Prices in Sozopol start at €35 per night for a double room in high season. This price applies if you book during the peak season. However, if you book before the season starts, you can find double rooms starting at €18.

In addition to Booking.com and similar platforms, you can also search for accommodation on Airbnb, where you can rent apartments.

Food in Sozopol

Prices in the resort town of Sozopol can sometimes be surprisingly low. There's a wide selection of eateries at varying prices, many of which are located right by the sea.

In Sozopol, grocery prices will be minimal if you buy them at regular chain stores, such as Lidl.

The beaches have very fine, soft-touch sand, making them ideal for small children. Two of Sozopol's beaches, Sozopol-Centralen and Sozopol-Harmanite, have been awarded the Blue Flag. The beaches offer rental sun loungers and umbrellas, and there are changing rooms.

What to see in Sozopol?

The closest full-fledged water park to Sozopol is Neptune.

The old part of Sozopol is an architectural reserve under the auspices of UNESCO.

There is an asphalt road along the coast, which can be used by car or bicycle.

On the way to Sozopol, not far from Chernomorets, we saw a new landmark – an upside-down house.

In the immediate vicinity of Sozopol, on both sides of the town, there are several campsites: Gradina, Zlatna Rybka, Kavatsi, Veselie and Smokinya.

The aforementioned islands of St. Ivan and St. Peter can be reached by boats operated by local fishermen. The area around Sozopol boasts a considerable number of ruins of ancient and Thracian fortresses and necropolises.

Many excursions can be taken directly from Sozopol. Some of them include: "Varna Top 10. Madara Horseman and the Millstone.".

Sozopol left a very good impression. It has a certain charm and style all its own. It's somewhat reminiscent of the more popular Nesebar, but the beaches and sea here are superior.
