Old Nessebar in Bulgaria

Would you like to know which city in Bulgaria is the oldest? Nessebar is one of the oldest cities on the Black Sea coast. It was founded more than 5,000 years ago.

The city consists of two parts—the Old Town and the New Town. You can book a private transfer to Nessebar here. Buy the cheapest bus tickets You can do it here

Old Nessebar

I recommend visiting the old town of Nessebar to anyone who enjoys sightseeing and museums.

The old part of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the site where Nessebar now stands was once home to the Thracian settlement of Mesembria—the remains of its fortress walls and towers have survived to this day.

Nessebar is located 3 km from the Sunny Beach resort and 17 km from the city of Burgas.

Old Nessebar

The cultural heritage of Old Nessebar is preserved in five museum exhibitions. There were about 42 churches in the old part of Nessebar; less than half of them have been discovered by archaeologists and preserved, and only one is still in use. The others, which are better preserved, have been converted into art galleries. The isthmus connecting the old part of Nesebar to the new part is about 400 meters long.

Old Nessebar

In the middle of the isthmus stands the old mill of Nesebar, which is no longer in operation but serves as a landmark and symbol of the city. Nesebar also has a small, picturesque sandy beach at the tip of the peninsula.

Weather in Nessebar in August: air temperature +31°C, water temperature +26°C

That's all for today.
