Bulgaria's Minister of Tourism Supports Ecotourism and Sustainable Development Programs

Bulgarian Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh actively supports the development of sustainable tourism in the country. A recent meeting with Stanimir Georgiev, Chairman of the Bulgarian Blue Flag Movement, focused on the organization's national programs in environmental education and sustainable tourism. The discussion focused on the implementation of environmentally friendly beach and marina management practices, as well as the use of new technologies for the sustainable development of tourism—one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the Bulgarian economy.

The meeting focused on the Green Key program, which certifies hotels and restaurants with a clear commitment to sustainable practices and environmental protection. Currently, Bulgaria Eight hotels and one restaurant boast the international eco-label. According to Minister Borshosh, sustainable tourism is not just a trend, but a strategic goal for Bulgaria, and more and more properties are receiving the Blue Flag and Green Key certificates. This is an important step in enhancing Bulgaria's international image as an attractive, environmentally conscious tourist destination.

By 2025, 22 beaches and one marina in Bulgaria already meet the strict international requirements of the Blue Flag program. Although beach certification in Bulgaria is still in its infancy, these initiatives offer significant potential for raising environmental standards and improving the quality of tourism services on the Black Sea coast.

Minister Borshosh noted that the certification of tourist sites and beaches not only contributes to improving Bulgaria's image as an environmentally sustainable destination, but also to the implementation of high quality standards that contribute to environmental conservation and the creation of better conditions for tourism in the country.
