Top 42 Bulgarian Companies with Billion-Dollar Turnovers: Who Are They?
According to the Bulgarian Enterprise Information System (BSK), 42 companies in Bulgaria reported annual turnover exceeding BGN 1 billion in 2023. Of these, 11 companies reported revenues exceeding BGN 2 billion, underscoring their key role in the country's economy.
Market leaders: who earns the most?
The first place in terms of turnover has traditionally been occupied by «Lukoil Neftochim Burgas AD with an impressive figure of 8.639 billion leva. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when the company reported 2.177 billion leva. The nearly fourfold increase was driven by rising energy prices and increased demand for its products.
The copper smelting giant is second in terms of revenue. «Aurubis Bulgaria», which ended 2023 with a turnover of 6.957 billion leva. Despite a 1 billion leva decrease in revenue compared to the previous year, the company remains one of Bulgaria's leading exporters.
The top three is rounded out by «"Lukoil-Bulgaria" EOOD, engaged in wholesale and retail trade of fuel, with a turnover of 6.310 billion leva.
Other large companies in Bulgaria
The fourth place in the ranking is occupied by a biodiesel plant. «Astra BioPlant» in Slivo Polje with a turnover of 4.019 billion leva. Although its revenue has declined significantly compared to last year's exceeding 7 billion leva, the company continues to play a significant role in the biofuels market.
Rounds out the top five National Electric Company with an annual turnover of BGN 3.470 billion, confirming the stability of Bulgaria's energy sector.

The top ten largest companies by the end of 2023 also included:
- BEY Glass Bulgaria AD – 2.980 billion leva.
- «Bulgargaz EAD (Sofia) – 2.565 billion leva.
- Kozloduy NPP EAD – 2.529 billion leva.
- Kaufland Bulgaria EOOD and Co. KD – 2.437 billion leva.
- Lidl Bulgaria EOOD & Co KD – 2.276 billion leva.
These companies are demonstrating sustainable growth and are actively expanding their operations in both national and international markets.
Who else made it into the TOP 30?
Among the companies that made it into the TOP-30, we can note «Saxa» (No. 11 in the ranking), which is part of the fuel sector, DSK Bank (No. 16), A1 Bulgaria (No. 18), CHPP Maritsa Iztok 2 (No. 19) and Billa Bulgaria (No. 29). These organizations play a vital role in sectors such as finance, telecommunications, and retail, contributing to the sustainable development of the Bulgarian economy.
